Regional Collaboration
The Community Foundation is part of a growing national movement focused on regions—understanding that the future prospects of low-income neighborhoods and their residents are tied to regional social, political and economic factors. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Washington region, where clear divides exist along lines of race, ethnicity and class. We recognize that improving the well being of low-income neighborhoods requires regional analysis and action. Accordingly, we are committed to strengthening our region’s capacity to work across sectors and geographic boundaries in order to reduce disparities. Fueling these efforts must be genuine civic engagement—where community members voices are heard and valued. In 2006, The Foundation helped launch the Washington Regional Equity Network in addition to our role as a convener of the Envision Greater Washington planning process. More recently, The Foundation has worked with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments to support its Greater Washington 2050 effort.
