One of the wealthiest African-American-majority counties in the country, Prince George’s County has grown dramatically in recent decades — its current population of more than 900,000 is nearly five times its size when measured in the 1950 Census. Prince George’s is a community that is “proud but honest” about its challenges and deeply rooted in civic pride and faith.
Since 1998, The Community Foundation’s office in Prince George’s County has worked closely with individuals, families, and businesses to match donor intent with community opportunity to create deeper local impact. We serve an important role in the County as a bridge between generous individuals, government and business organizations, and local nonprofit organizations.
Our staff organizes and directs Sharing Prince George’s, a strategic, donor-led funding effort to encourage more residents and businesses to ‘give where they live.’ Since its inception, Sharing Prince George’s has awarded nearly $900,000 in grants to some of the best community-based nonprofit organizations serving Prince George’s County residents. With staff facilitating a rigorous annual vetting and site visit process, Sharing Prince George’s donor-led grants committees evaluate each applicant’s program, management and leadership to make sure it is the best possible investment.
Thank you for attending the 2017 Civic Leadership Awards!
The Civic Leadership Awards were established in 2006 by The Community Foundation in Prince George’s County to recognize, honor, and promote outstanding community leadership in Prince George’s County. The award recognizes individuals and organizations who too often are unrecognized for their important contributions—unsung heroes who have quietly, tirelessly, and unselfishly demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to improving and enhancing the quality of life in our community.
