Pursue
Economic Justice

To make our vision for economic justice a reality, we are putting powerful economic strategies to work in the parts of our community experiencing the deepest disparities and historical disinvestment.

Prospering Together: Celebrating a Historic Campaign for Economic Justice

On June 17th, The Community Foundation gathered with friends and supporters at the National Museum of Women in the Arts to celebrate the conclusion of the Together, We Prosper Campaign for Economic Justice.

Built on two central pillars—investing in strategies to close the racial wealth gap and endowing Greater Washington—the campaign mobilized more than 1,200 donors from across the region. Some of the capital raised is already having an immediate impact including Guaranteed Income pilots like Thrive Prince George’s and MoCo Boost, the Brilliant Futures children’s savings pilot, the Prince George’s County Small Business Support Program.

Brilliant Futures

This year, The Community Foundation announced the launch of Brilliant Futures - a children’s savings pilot program that will provide two classes of students at Bradbury Heights Elementary and Jackson Road Elementary with up to $1,000 each year from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Upon graduating (or an equivalent), students enrolled in Brilliant Futures can put their savings toward ongoing education and training or to pursue other income- or wealth-generating opportunities, such as buying a home or starting a business.

Prince George’s County Small Business Support Program

In April, The Community Foundation partnered with the PNC Foundation to launch the Prince George’s County Small Business Support Program.

The initiative provided over $500,000 in grants and technical assistance to 17 small businesses along the Blue and Purple Line corridors in Prince George’s County to help them harness the economic benefits of development along the transit corridors.

Unlocking the Power of
Guaranteed Income

In October, The Community Foundation gathered with guaranteed income advocates from across the region to discuss how to amplify the effects of guaranteed income pilots in the Greater Washington region.

Among the attendees were partners and participants in The Community Foundation’s Thrive Prince George’s program, which in April celebrated it’s one-year anniversary of providing greater economic stability for youth and seniors in Prince George’s County.
