Thirty years ago, Cliff Kendall, Bob Linowes, Sally Rudney, and several visionary leaders founded the Montgomery County office of the Greater Washington Community Foundation. They believed that when neighbors invest in neighbors, communities don't just survive, they transform. And they were right.
Gift by gift, that belief spread and galvanized a community of givers working to create lasting impact. Over three decades, their generosity has fueled more than $170 million in grants to over 1,200 nonprofits touching every corner of Montgomery County, addressing needs from health to housing, arts to education, and more.

Cathy Bernard approaches philanthropy with the same skills that made her successful in business—tremendous drive and hands-on leadership. Her personal passions and long-standing commitment to Montgomery County compelled her to take on leadership roles with many vital organizations and help them achieve major breakthroughs.
