Darcelle Wilson serves as Executive Director for the Greater Washington Community Foundation’s Prince George’s County office, where she leads The Community Foundation’s philanthropic, community engagement, and partnership-building efforts across the county. Since joining The Community Foundation in September 2021, she has worked with donors, community leaders, nonprofits, businesses, and public-sector partners to connect philanthropy with opportunities to strengthen Prince George’s County and improve the lives of its residents.
With more than 20 years of experience in philanthropy and fundraising, Darcelle brings deep expertise in major gifts, comprehensive campaigns, donor engagement, strategic communications, and relationship building. Before joining The Community Foundation, she served as Assistant Dean for Development at the University of Maryland, where she led major gifts, alumni relations, and communications and marketing programs. She later served as Senior Director of Development for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, managing a multidisciplinary fundraising team spanning regional and planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and development communications.
Her career also includes international development experience with Habitat for Humanity International and the Salvation Army World Service Office. Through Habitat, she gained firsthand exposure to housing and community development approaches around the world, including experiences in Budapest and Nicaragua involving site visits, housing builds, program assessment, and training. That work deepened her understanding of how locally rooted solutions, philanthropy, and cross-sector partnerships can address complex challenges across different cultural and economic environments.
Today, her work extends beyond traditional fundraising to positioning philanthropy as a catalyst for collaboration, investment, and long-term community prosperity. She is particularly interested in building partnerships that connect economic opportunity, workforce development, innovation, and community wealth-building with the people and communities they are intended to benefit.
The daughter of an Air Force family and later an Air Force wife, Darcelle spent much of her early life living in different regions of the United States and in several countries around the world. She credits that combination of personal and professional experience with shaping her adaptability, curiosity, and ability to build authentic relationships across different communities and perspectives — qualities that continue to inform how she leads, convenes, and builds bridges today.
