Marcus joined The Community Foundation in December 2020. As the Chief Operating Officer, he leads The Community Foundation's work to enhance its internal operations, systems, and processes to ensure the organization has the infrastructure, technology, and organizational culture needed to continue its success and impact. In this role, Marcus leads multiple critical teams including Donor/Client Services, HR and Administration, Data and Systems, Fund Administration, and Philanthropic Consulting, ensuring alignment across all operational functions.
Marcus is passionate about leveraging technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence as powerful tools for advancing impact, both within GWCF and across the broader philanthropic sector. He champions the strategic integration of these technologies to enhance operational efficiency, improve donor and client experiences, and amplify the foundation's impact in the community. Additionally, Marcus leads business development efforts for a portfolio of the organization's fee-for-service work, expanding GWCF's capacity to serve other nonprofits, foundations, and government partners through specialized administrative and fund management services.
Marcus has 20 years of experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and consulting sectors and serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of Seabury Resources for Aging, a local nonprofit organization that provides personalized, affordable services and housing options to help older adults in the greater Washington, DC area live with independence and dignity. Marcus is also a member of the Dean's Advisory Board at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
