In the lead up to the 2025 Prince George’s HONORS, the Greater Washington Community Foundation gathered at SHABACH! Ministries in Landover, Maryland to recognize the incredible contributions of nonprofit leaders from across Prince George’s County.
The Prince George’s Nonprofit Breakfast and Symposium – which was co-hosted with Nonprofit Prince George’s – comes at a critical time for nonprofit leaders across the region and the sector, as organizations are still struggling to adapt to the layoff of thousands of federal employees (many who call Prince George’s County home) and the loss of federal funding.
Tiffanie Purvis addresses nonprofit leaders from Prince George’s County.
“Thank you for being here and for the critical work that you do each and every day,” shared Tiffanie Purvis, General Counsel and Senior Philanthropic Advisor for The Community Foundation. “As leaders in Prince George’s County, you all not only serve our community – you are helping to shape it’s future.”
“The challenges facing our community and our sector are real – but so is our ability and capacity to respond,” Purvis added.
Participants also heard from Congressman Glenn Ivey (D-MD4), who represents Prince George’s County and has been a leading advocate and ally for the region’s nonprofit sector on Capitol Hill.
“We stand where we are today – as a region and a nation – because of community leaders like you,” Congressman Ivey exclaimed. “During the darkest hours of our history, nonprofit leaders are the ones who have taken the mantle of leadership and become the backbone for change and community growth.”
Congressman Ivey drew historical comparisons to the Civil Rights Movement, highlighting how groups like the NAACP and other faith leaders stepped up to serve as drivers and catalysts for greater change.

"We're counting on you; I know it's not fair; there's too much on your shoulders and it's more than it should be," Congressman Ivey acknowledged. “But I also know that with you as our leaders, together, we will get it done.”
