2026-2027 Sharing Montgomery Letter of Interest
ABOUT: For nearly 30 years, the Sharing Montgomery Fund of the Greater Washington Community Foundation has supported high-impact nonprofits serving Montgomery County’s low-income residents. We are proud of the ways these organizations have responded to the community’s needs and worked in partnership toward our shared vision of a more equitable, just, and thriving Montgomery County.
As part of The Community Foundation’s 10-year strategic plan, the Sharing Montgomery Fund aims to address urgent community needs, advance economic justice, and, ultimately, work to address the wealth gap which undermines the health and stability of our entire community. Therefore, Sharing Montgomery’s grantmaking priorities for this year include:
Basic needs for our low-income neighbors (e.g., access to resources for health and mental health, food security, affordable housing, childcare and education, and interventions that help families transition from crisis to recovery).
Economic mobility resources that enable people to chart a pathway out of poverty (e.g., access to higher education, training, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, etc.).
Individual and Community Wealth Building opportunities which empower people with the financial and social capital needed to build wealth so they can weather crises and pursue their dreams.
Interested organizations must complete all the fields in the Letter of Interest application form by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026. See below for more information!

Sharing Montgomery grants primarily provide flexible general operating support for organizations that serve Montgomery County’s low-income residents. Nonprofits may apply those resources wherever the need is greatest to advance their missions. (Note: Grants to regional organizations will be earmarked to support efforts in the county.)
-
For the FY27 cycle, The Community Foundation projects Sharing Montgomery will award 30+ one-time grants ranging from $5,000 - $10,000 to support work for the coming year. Additionally, the staff and Sharing Montgomery Committee may choose to award 1-2 organizations with larger grants ($50,000-$100,000). These larger investments may support multiyear grants to a single organization, or a collaborative effort of two or more organizations. Multiyear and collaborative grants are designed to help nonprofits advance larger, long-term goals for themselves and the communities they serve.
-
Sharing Montgomery has a two-stage application process. To minimize administrative burden for potential applicants, The Community Foundation has opened an initial Letter of Interest (LOI) application for stage one, using a simplified form that enables nonprofits in the county to share information about their work.
Interested organizations must complete all the fields in the Letter of Interest application form by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
By October, The Community Foundation will follow up to inform the selected nonprofits that they are required to submit a full proposal for funding. Grant decisions will be announced in late March 2027.
Additionally, the staff may reach out at any time of year if we encounter another grant opportunity that may be a good fit.
-
The Community Foundation will host an informational webinar on Thursday, July 16 at 2:30 p.m. to answer any questions from potential applicants regarding Sharing Montgomery and the application process.
