Northern Virginia is an area rich in history, culture, diversity, and growth. Fueled in large part by the IT and defense sectors, the area is a powerhouse of innovation and boasts robust infrastructure, exceptional schools, and a vibrant multi-cultural community – with representation stretching from Asia, Africa, Central America, and the Middle East.

Our VoicesDMV Community Insights Report showcases what makes Northern Virginia exceptional: high degree of optimism about community assets and amenities, strong ability for residents to increase income, and potential to pass on wealth to future generations. At the same time, the report reveals areas where we can build on our strengths to address community needs – with residents facing limited access to job opportunities, capital or credit support, and affordable housing.

The Community Foundation has turned these insights into action, bringing together caring donors, committed nonprofits, and dedicated government, business, and philanthropic partners to address our community's greatest needs while building a thriving region where every person prospers.

We're making a difference by mobilizing resources to support nonprofits addressing these needs through our Sharing Northern Virginia Fund. We mobilize corporate and philanthropic networks to respond to community crises. We support and champion local philanthropic efforts to create systemic change such as ACT for Alexandria's Fund for Racial Equity and Arlington Community Foundation's Arlington's Guarantee.
