To make our vision for economic justice a reality, we are putting powerful economic strategies to work in the parts of our community experiencing the deepest disparities and historical disinvestment.
Health Equity Fund
The Community Foundation’s Health Equity Fund continued to make significant investments in economic mobility across DC, including $15.7 million in innovative Demonstration projects.
These investments were designed to spark innovation across DC – from entrepreneurial fellowships for youth and small business owners, to preventing displacement by supporting small landlords and grassroots community advocates.
Since 2022, the Health Equity Fund has awarded 155 grants totaling over $90 million – with more than half of the fund’s partners working in DC’s Ward 7 & 8.
Brilliant Futures
In August, our Brilliant Futures Scholars returned to the classroom for another year of learning - and another $1,000 in savings designed to set them up for success! To date, the program has enrolled 319 students.
We were proud to launch the first of many additional supports for families through a partnership with TrustPlus and the Latino Economic Development Center to help participants of both Thrive Prince George’s and Brilliant Futures to maximize their economic potential through financial coaching services.
Thrive Prince George’s
April 2026 marked the conclusion of our Thrive Prince George’s, a two-year guaranteed income pilot program providing cash transfers to 50 youth who have aged out of foster care and 125 low-income seniors in Prince George’s County.
Over the course of the program participants reported significant improvements in housing stability, food insecurity, and mental health and wellness.
Prospering Together: Celebrating a Historic Campaign for Economic Justice
On June 17th, The Community Foundation gathered with friends and supporters at the National Museum of Women in the Arts to celebrate the conclusion of the Together, We Prosper Campaign for Economic Justice.
Built on two central pillars—investing in strategies to close the racial wealth gap and endowing Greater Washington—the campaign mobilized more than 1,200 donors from across the region. Some of the capital raised is already having an immediate impact including Guaranteed Income pilots like Thrive Prince George’s and MoCo Boost, the Brilliant Futures children’s savings pilot, the Prince George’s County Small Business Support Program.
